Service Description for Silver Label
Has your mobile home been renovated or changed? Are you trying to sell? If you are missing the CSA sticker on the exterior of your home it can make selling a rough go. We can help you get re-certified; with a full home inspection, insulation test and repair of any deficiencies. After the work has been performed it will be followed by a Technical Safety BC officer inspection and you will be issued a new "Silver Label".
This is relevant to any residential wiring. I am including it with the “RUALT SILVER LABEL” because it is common to find aluminum wiring in older mobile homes like the ones that would be a good candiate for a “Silver Label”.
Homes with aluminum wiring are 55 times more likely to have one or more electrical connections reach fire hazard conditions.
As part of a Silver Label mobile home certification we were required to upgrade the existing panel. With most the wiring being aluminum, we made the decision to keep it out of the panel and make the aluminum to copper transition in a separate junction box. We have used approved wire-nuts and used an oxide inhibitor to prevent oxidation on all aluminum points of connection.
The facts on aluminum wiring:
Oxidation - Over time the aluminum will slowly oxidize and the compound created by this, aluminum oxide, is less conductive creating more resistance. More resistance creates more heat, potentially resulting in a fire hazard.
Thermal Expansion - Aluminum expands and contracts much more than copper. Over time this can result in loose connections, creating arcing and heat.
